As a spectator watching the snuff bottle market, a specimen such as this sea fossil snuff bottle rarely appears. I believe they stay in collections and their endearing appearance made it difficult for collectors to let go. This nteresting pebble here was carved into a flattened globular form tapering to a short raised flat oval foot. The opening is flat and is matched with a carnelian or red jasper cap on a black collar which blends well with the black lines that ran across the body on one side.. Nature gave this bottle numerous shapes, some are obviously fossils, some are some irregular shapes that are in light brown, grey and creamy shades. Running all over the bottle connecting these shapes are lines - jagged, diagonal and rounded in black, grey and beige. An abstract artist could not have planned a better composition.
