The following is my personal opinion, so please take it as a reference.
If you have prepared sufficiently for the Civil Aviation University exam, you are likely to pass the Japan Coast Guard Academy exam just by using past questions. I was able to pass the written exam with almost perfect scores in English and mathematics.
Regarding the physical examination, I personally felt that the standards were lower than those of the Civil Aviation University.
