Orris (Iris germanica) is an herbaceous plant with a powerful creeping rhizome. The stem is erect, 60-100 cm in height. The leaves are flat, bluish-green, xiphoid, pointed at the end. The flowers are bisexual, solitary, dark purple, yellow at the base, with brown-purple veins. The fruit is a box. It blooms in May and June.
