The golf scanning mode allows for continuous measurement while you pass multiple targets so that you need not hit and trigger each target. The rangefinder has 6x magnification, which is what many manufacturers have settled on as the sweet spot, as it is zoomed in enough to see your target properly but not too zoomed that you have trouble finding the target at all.
