Sphene will captivate you from the moment you first set eyes on it. When I first came across it I was utterly mesmerized - it caught my eye and kept it!
Sphene's dispersion is .051 (vs. diamond's .044)! And its refractive index is sky-high at 1.843-2.11, so it glitters and shines more than most stones! It's also trichroic, showing 3 colors, if it is cut right. It is a softer stone than most precious gemstones - a 5-5.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, so you do need to treat it gently. I have a few other Sphenes, but this is the best quality one I own. It is VVS clarity, so no visible defects, a gorgeous amber color, masterfully cut in an oval shape that maximizes the green and red refractive splashes.
