Antique Victorian gold mourning locket. Dating from the mid 19th century (c 1860). It is made of 15ct gold vermeil and features a bold memorial design of a cross, set with rose-cut French paste stones and accented by black enamel. A popular symbol of faith and remembrance during the Victorian era. The black enamel indicates the piece was made for a person in mourning, often signifying grief for a married individual. It measures 5cm x 4cm. Has a glazed section inside with a photograph. And a framed section for a momento or further photograph.
