Strand Older African Sandcast Powder Glass Beads from Ghana, Africa.
These handcrafted beads are made by taking discarded glass (crushed into a powder), adding colorant and then pouring the powder into crude clay molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are hand painted with traditional designs. These types of beads are often referred to as "powder glass" as well as "sandcast".
As with all glass beads, the larger the bead the more it weighs. Expect imperfections in these beads, as they were handcrafted and no two are identical.
